The Government of Malawi is in the process of establishing a new national bus company to provide public passenger services nationally. It is the intention of the GoM that this new national bus company is established via a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, where the Government will team up with local Malawian investors in setting up the operations and management of the new company. The Company will be expected to provide services through: - Inter-regional routes, spanning the entire length and breadth of the country;
- Inter-district routes, including rural areas
- Urban transport routes, and potentially;
- International routes within the SADC region
The Government of Malawi recently called for expressions of interest from local investors in this joint venture. The process of selecting the preferred bidder is underway.
